Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo is one of the top zoos in the world.

MMF12 Family with Rhino 200

The Zoo is at the forefront of education, conservation and breeding programmes - but they make sure that everyone has fun at the same time as learning about animals.

It's a large zoo, and the animals have plenty of space.

It's easily reached from Millmoor Farm, and is just minutes from the A55 Cheshire Ring Road - a great day out for all ages.

Farmers Market

Farmers' Market - Chester Regional Producers' Market is held on the first Wednesday in every month, in the Town Hall Square, Chester.

Places to Eat

Places to eat - Chester is packed with cafés, bars and restaurants. There's every type of cuisine on offer - the Onion Ring is Cheshire's own restaurant finder.

Shopping

Chester has great shopping, both in and out of the city walls. The Rows are historic double-decker shops that date from mediaeval times, with a gallery level looking out over the street. There are many small shops here that are great to browse in.

The Forum Mall in the city centre has all the big names, and Cheshire Oaks is the perfect out-of-town shopping and entertainment centre.

Chester History

Chester is full of things to do, and easily reached from Millmoor Farm - it's just half an hour away. Chester is a city full of history but with modern facilities - and all on a manageable scale.

History - Chester was a major Roman city, and you can still walk around the walls (it takes just a couple of hours). It was a sea port in Roman times - the race course is where the harbour used to be. The Civil War saw Chester become a Royalist stronghold, which eventually fell to Cromwell's army after a long siege. Chester Cathedral has been recently refurbished, and is a lovely, calming place to visit. It has an unusual separate bell-tower.

The Grosvenor Museum brings the story of Chester to life and has many interesting exhibits, while The Dewa Roman Experience is a museum with a difference - its 'hands-on' displays help you really understand what life was like in Roman times.
